Jonathan has been seeing our horses, and my mother and I for a few years now. From the first time we met him and had our first treatments, we were hooked! The difference is always obvious after he has been to visit. It's hard to describe how it works, you can see the treatment having an effect, especially on the horses, and feel the changes! But watching the how is sometimes something like seeing magic happen.
Usually we see Jonathan for maintenance treatments. However, recently I had a very serious issue with my mare Baby, after some remedial shoeing went awry causing laminitis (inflammation of the laminae) in her right fore. She was non weight-bearing on said right fore and standard treatment for laminitis was not having any effect. The vet suspected an abscess but (conservative) digging couldn't get to it. Blood tests showed there was no systemic infection or such hiding, but she was getting worse. Instead of improving, after a week her entire body seemed to lock up, especially behind, and she could barely move. She was in horrendous pain and bute didn't even seem to take the edge off anymore. It was absolutely and utterly heart breaking to watch my poor girl attempting to wobble around, if she even tried to move at all. Our vet told me our options at this point were to sedate her try to get her down to a specialist vet for assessment, with the cause of her pain/decline still unknown, or look at putting her down to save her from her misery.
I had been in touch with Jonathan, and now I begged him to come out and see her urgently. I hoped that he might be able to at least help her to be comfortable enough to transport her, as the state she was in we were worried she would go down in the float.
Jonathan was the turning point for Baby, the treatment went better than I could ever have hoped... I could see the absolute relief on her face as he worked on her, and he could tell us that she had had a fall, which had in fact caused her body to lock down due to the damage that had occurred. As he worked she started shifting her weight, first gingerly, then with more confidence. By the end of the treatment she was standing on the right fore that she hadn't been able to weight bear on for over a week!! That night she willingly walked across the paddock for her feed. I cried... She was not miraculously cured and sound in an instant, but her pain had obviously greatly lessened, she was willing to move, and weight bearing on all four legs!! The next day a massive abscess had burst out her right fore coronet band, and from then on she just kept moving, and kept improving!
I didn't end up having to take her to the specialists. The next week when the (new) farrier came to see her my vet came to, expecting to have to sedate her. Baby didn't need any drugs. She was walking nearly normally, and she could stand comfortably while each foreleg was up on the stand. My vet couldn't believe it! She told the farrier that last week she had thought she might have to put Baby down and she couldn't believe the improvement.
Thanks to Jonathan working his magic my girl is still here with me, still improving, and I will be forever grateful!!
